FLY THE FLAG!

flying help e.V. - Project Kos
It was supposed to be our vacation when we arrived on the island Kos at the end of July 2015. Being faced with the urgent plight of many refugees on the island, my wife an I decided to interrupt the vacation to spontaneously help the refugee relief “Kos Solidarity” at supporting the refugees with food.
The situation of refugees in the Mediterranean Sea is dramatic. Every day, people betake themselves on flight by crossing the Mediterranean. Quite a number is from Syria, on their way of escaping the war. Badly affected are the Greek Islands near the coast of Turkey. Right now, flying help e.V. is supporting the relief organization "Kos Solidarity", on the island Kos. Different projects are in scheduling. The refugees there live on the street, homeless. Among those, there are babies, infants and pregnant women. The camp “Captain Elias” is totally crowded, the situation there is disastrous! The smell of excreta is wafting over the area. There are four mobile toilets and a few water hoses out in the open for those people. No beds, no electricity. Some of them are getting sick already, especially babies and infants are starting to show deficiency symptoms. There's an urgent need for food, tents, sleeping bags, constant-current generators, a portable soup kitchen, portable sanitation, backpacks, clothing and a lot more. The living conditions of refugees are in no way humane and need immediate improvement. Authorities and relief agencies there can't take more, they have reached their limits. flying help e.V. is supporting “Kos Solidarity” by offering food, sanitary products, clothing, shoes and more. ...more

Clowns ohne Grenzen

We are clowns, acrobatic and performing artists who travel to areas of crisis on a voluntary basis to perform for the people who live there. It is our goal to make the people who live there laugh from the bottom of their hearts and to provide them with fond memories. By areas of crisis we mean surroundings desolated by tragedies like for example war, natural catastrophes or poverty.
The idea for this project was born in Spain from where since 1993 clowns have been travelling to all parts of the world in order to bring laughter to the people.
Soon the idea was adopted by French and Swedish clowns and in the meantime twelve nations are part of the Clowns Without Borders family. In Germany Clowns ohne Grenzen e.V. (e.V. meaning “registered association”) was founded on July 1, 2007.
We are a non-profit organization without any political or religious motives. We perform for all people – irrespective of their origin, age, religious, cultural or social background. Like all globally active Clowns Without Borders organizations we comply with the common Code of Ethics. All clowns/artists volunteer their time.

Open Doors
When Open Doors was started by Brother Andrew in 1955, he felt a calling from God to minister to fellow Christians who were persecuted for their faith. As a result, Open Doors has specialized in helping Christians who are persecuted for their faith. However, we work with persecuted Christians to reach out to non-Christians, even their persecutors, so that they can reach them with the message of Christ.

You can visit the websites of the organisations directly and make your donation there. Our main aim is to inform you and this is very close to our heart. As we are aware of the time-consuming aspect of research and we want to make it easier for you to get informed, we often collect information for days or even weeks.

The organisations we donate to are not responsible for the content of this t-shirt/ design. The content does not necessarily reflect their opinion.

About the theme:

We want these designs to take on the role of a snapshot in time representing the 21st century and showing what is going on.

Poverty (Wikipedia)

Poverty is general scarcity, dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money.
It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. may be defined as either absolute or relative. Absolute poverty or destitution refers to the amount of money necessary to meet basic needs such as food, clothes, etc.

It doesn't involve a wider or broader life issues such as inequalities. Relative poverty involve economical status, individual social and cultural needs. After the industrial revolution, mass production in factories made production goods increasingly less expensive and more accessible. Of more importance is the modernization of agriculture, such as fertilizers, to provide enough yield to feed the population.

Responding to basic needs can be restricted by constraints on government's ability to deliver services, such as corruption, tax avoidance, debt and loan conditionalities and by the brain drain of health care and educational professionals. Strategies of increasing income to make basic needs more affordable typically include welfare, economic freedoms and providing financial services. Poor people have less access to health and education. They also face malnutrition, hunger and have little or no interference in the society

Poverty reduction is a major goal and issue for many international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank. The World Bank forecasts that 702.1 million people were living in extreme poverty in 2015, down from 1.75 billion in 1990.
Of these, about 347.1 million people lived in Sub-Saharan Africa (35.2% of the population) and 231.3 million lived in South Asia (13.5% of the population). Between 1990 and 2015, the percentage of the world's population living in extreme poverty fell from 37.1% to 9.6%, falling below 10% for the first time.

Nevertheless, given the current economic model, built on GDP, it would take 100 years to bring the world's poorest up to the standard poverty line of $1.25 a day. Extreme poverty is a global challenge; it is observed in all parts of the world, including developed economies.

UNICEF estimates half the world's children (or 1.1 billion) live in poverty It has been argued by some academics that the neoliberal policies promoted by global financial institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank are actually exacerbating both inequality and poverty.

World Watch Country Profiles 2015 (Open Doors)

World Watch List highlights the 50 countries where it is most difficult to live as a Christian. These are the places where followers of Christ must keep their beliefs hidden and where living the gospel means facing beatings, imprisonment, discrimination and abuse.

The list reports that persecution became more intense in more parts of the world in 2014. While North Korea remains the most difficult place in the world to be a Christian, persecution is growing most rapidly in Africa, especially sub-Saharan Africa. In the Middle East, Islamic State violence in Iraq and Syria has increased the pace of the exodus of the Christian population from the region and is also having a global impact.

Christians living in these countries need the support of their family, the body of Christ, to help them stand firm in their faith.
