FLY THE FLAG!

UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR)
In 2015, the influx from South Sudan is expected to continue, with the current estimate at 130,000 South Sudanese refugees by the start of the year. UNHCR will continue to lead and coordinate the response to this, in support of the Government's efforts. It will advocate a predictable legal framework for newly arrived South Sudanese, to ensure they can access the rights and entitlements affirmed in public statements by the authorities.

Sea Watch
The situation is clear. 46.000.000 people worldwide are fleeing. Most of them have no chance of survival or a decent life in their home country. The overland routes to Central Europe are blocked by many border security installations.Hundreds of thousands try to reach the save haven of EU countries in extremely precarious boats across the Mediterranean Sea. EACH YEAR thousands of people,  men, women and children perish in this attempt, often drowning within eyeshot of the of safety. Operation “Mare Nostrum”, which saved more than 130.000 people, was suspended by the EU, to maximize deterrence. Instead, Operation “Triton” was instigated in order to make it more difficult to cross the borders for those who tried anyway. The German government talks a lot about helping, the CSU would at least likes to help those who do not come “for our money” (the so-called economic migrants). However, proposalsabout how those in need should get to Germany do not exist. They talk about a “culture of welcome”, whilst Europe closes itself off hermetically. The German Chancellor talks about the cold-heartedness of people, yet condones that children, women and men drown in the Mediterranean while trying to save their lives.

flying help e.V. - Project Kos
It was supposed to be our vacation when we arrived on the island Kos at the end of July 2015. Being faced with the urgent plight of many refugees on the island, my wife an I decided to interrupt the vacation to spontaneously help the refugee relief “Kos Solidarity” at supporting the refugees with food.
The situation of refugees in the Mediterranean Sea is dramatic. Every day, people betake themselves on flight by crossing the Mediterranean. Quite a number is from Syria, on their way of escaping the war. Badly affected are the Greek Islands near the coast of Turkey. Right now, flying help e.V. is supporting the relief organization "Kos Solidarity", on the island Kos. Different projects are in scheduling. The refugees there live on the street, homeless. Among those, there are babies, infants and pregnant women. The camp “Captain Elias” is totally crowded, the situation there is disastrous! The smell of excreta is wafting over the area. There are four mobile toilets and a few water hoses out in the open for those people. No beds, no electricity. Some of them are getting sick already, especially babies and infants are starting to show deficiency symptoms. There's an urgent need for food, tents, sleeping bags, constant-current generators, a portable soup kitchen, portable sanitation, backpacks, clothing and a lot more. The living conditions of refugees are in no way humane and need immediate improvement. Authorities and relief agencies there can't take more, they have reached their limits. flying help e.V. is supporting “Kos Solidarity” by offering food, sanitary products, clothing, shoes and more. ...more

March of hope

A friend always gives love. And he is born as a brother for times of need.

2. Mose 12:49

At the beginning of June, Baraq will start a new competitions among the refugees. We will try to meet and get to know refugees in Germany as well as outside of Europe. We want to talk to them and hear about their experience. About their journey, how they feel, their current conditions and how they expect their future. We are open for all their stories.  We will try to create a design with the young people and will keep you informed about our experience! The Baraq team knows that this competition will be a huge challenge. May god help us!

"It is our aim to see each other and to recognise the others as what they are: a counterpart and completion for one another." Hermann Hesse

We want this t-shirt to raise awareness and give information about the current situation of hundred thousand of people. Lately,1700 people have died in the Mediterranean sea.

This is our aim! This video expresses everything! This is the only way we can live together, caring for one another!

One Human Family, Food for All (Caritas Internationalis)

Based on an ancient story about hunger and sharing, this animated video is part of Caritas’ “One Human Family, Food for All” campaign. The “allegory of the spoons”teachesus that when we struggle to feed only ourselves, everyone goes hungry. But when we focus on our neighbour’s hunger, we discover there are ways to feed everyone.

Italian Police Beat Immigrants in Lampedusa Clashes

Trouble continues at the overcrowded Lampedusa camp as Italian riot police charge migrants a day after asylum seekers started fires in protest against forced repatriations.

The Italian Island With More Refugees That It Can Handle

here are few Europeans who wouldn't support the push for democracy in the Arab world. Yet for the people of Lampedusa, it means they are having to cope with the full impact of the North African refugee crisis.

Men are crowded onto the little boat as the coastguard approaches. It is just one of many on its way to Lampedusa. "We were scared, we took a lot of risks", says Radhouane as he shows us the little rusted boat he came in. He, like many others, says he left Tunisia despite the revolution, "there is no hope". Yet while the Lampedusians try to be supportive and house the growing number of refugees, fear has taken over. "It's not prejudice, I am scared because we are being outnumbered", one local says. As refugees pour in, the tiny island has seen its population double. With their tourist industry in jeopardy and the Italian mainland struggling to relieve the strain, the situation is becoming critical.
